Home News GSM iPad 2 &iPhone 4 Featuring Infineon Chip-Apple’s Cost Saving Strategy?

It looks like  Apple is under scrutiny everyday and people keep raising questions and doubts.   Some Apple lovers go to any extent to analyze their favorite gadget.  A source tells us that 18 different versions of all iPad models were examined. Can you believe that? This was done to point the differences between WiFi- 3G GSM and CDMA versions of the tablet. It was found out that iPad for Verizon also has an antenna and GPS just like the iPhone 4 tailored for Verizon.

The similarities do not just end with that. It keeps coming. Just like iPhone 4 for Verizon, the new CDMA version of iPad 2 supports both GSM and CDMA. iPad 2 is equipped with Gobi Chipset, a Qualcomm MDM600 which does a perfect job. Both devices come in with a Toshiba Y890A111222KA, Qualcomm PM8028 Power Management IC and power amplifier modules the Skyworks 77711 and 77710

What is bothering us now? We had expected a dual-mode Gobi chip on the 3G version of the iPad 2. But when it was stripped down it revealed an older Infineon 337Se833 baseband chip. We cannot help but think that it might be Apple’s cost cutting strategy. But why does Apple have to complicate things by using an older technology when it could have used the same dual-mode chip?

What does iPhone 5 hold for us? Will it be Apple’s first 4G device with Long Term Evolution Technology? Well, we just have to wait for the answers.
