Sherlock Holmes Stories

Are you a die-hard fan of Sherlock Holmes detective stories? You can now enjoy reading a digital version which comes with exciting 3D animation. SHERLOCK: Interactive Adventure is a book app which has brought new life to classic Sherlock Holmes stories with an interactive style of narration and professional voice acting. This app is a digital adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Adventure of the Red-Headed League.” I have read all Sherlock Holmes stories earlier, but with this app I was able to see the stories in a new light.

Once you install the app and start reading, you will see that each scene has been illustrated with 3D animation. The visuals used in the app have been designed to give you a glimpse of 19th century London. This app adds a new dimension to the reading experience by allowing you to explore the room, objects and characters in the visuals.

In this app, you play the role of Dr. Watson. This participatory narration allows you to closely follow Sherlock Holmes in all his detective endeavors. You can view a 19th century map of London to explore the locality and collects hints for investigation. The app has 30 plots and there are separate dossiers for each plot which brief you about the central characters. The app also has an option called Collections from where you can get detailed information about clues and antique objects.

SHERLOCK: Interactive Adventure has a classic paper background with old style fonts to take readers back to the Victorian age. The layout, designs, illustrations and the interface of the app are quite commendable. The app has used the book’s original text. You can listen to Simon Vanes’ audio narration of the story while you read and enjoy 20 unique soundtracks. Currently, the stories can be read in English and Russian, and developers could consider including other world languages to engage readers across the globe.

I was disappointed to see that the app doesn’t have the complete collection of Sherlock Holmes stories. Another aspect I personally missed in this book app is a bookmarking option to mark pages for later use. This app is available in both free and paid versions. In the free version you have access to a limited number of plots, and by using in-app purchases you can unlock other plots. The paid version is available for $1.99.
